Spain, like other European Union countries, imposes various taxes related to buying, owning, and selling property. Find out what tax obligations await you and how to avoid unexpected costs.  <\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Taxes on Property Purchase in Spain in 2025<\/h2>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Secondary Market \u2013 ITP Tax. <strong>If you&#8217;re buying a property on the secondary market (from a private individual), you&#8217;re subject to the ITP tax (Impuesto sobre Transmisiones Patrimoniales). The rate depends on the region: <\/strong><\/h3>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Costa del Sol (Andalusia)<\/strong> \u2013 7%<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Costa Blanca (Valencia)<\/strong> \u2013 10%<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p>This tax is a one-time payment made by the buyer.<\/p>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Primary market \u2013 VAT and AJD taxes. IBI \u2013 Property Tax<\/h3>\n\n<p>IBI (Impuesto sobre Bienes Inmuebles) is a local cadastral tax paid once a year. The amount depends on the property value and local municipal rates. <\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>In <strong>Costa Blanca<\/strong>, IBI tends to be lower<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In <strong>Costa del Sol<\/strong>, the tax is usually higher \u2013 due to higher property prices<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">2. IRNR \u2013 Income Tax for Non-Residents<\/h3>\n\n<p>If you are not a resident of Spain, you must pay an annual income tax (even if you don&#8217;t rent out the property):<\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>EU citizens<\/strong> \u2013 19%<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Non-EU citizens<\/strong> \u2013 24% (without the possibility of deducting costs)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p>This tax covers rental income, and in case of no rental, a so-called imputed income for property use is charged. <\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Taxes on Selling Property in Spain<\/h2>\n\n<p>Are you planning to sell property in Spain? Capital Gains Tax (Plusval\u00eda Estatal)<\/h3>\n\n<p>This applies when selling property and is calculated on the profit (difference between purchase price and sale price):<\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>19% \u2013 if the property was owned for up to 6 years<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Progressive scale \u2013 over 6 years<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">2.
